  3. My son who just turned 2 has 2 on his face. They currently as the size your daughters were when they first appeared. I have an appt scheduled to see the top pediatric derm in NYC next month. How quickly did your daughters flare up? How is she doing today? Thank you

  4. I think your decision to see a top pediatric derm in your city is the right one, he or she will quickly be able to tell what your son has.

With my daughter, her spot was there as a blackish pore looking thing for about nine months before it got infected. We weren't told by the pediatrician that it was a potential for getting infected, only that it wouldn't go away on its own and would have to be removed surgically. SO we were dragging our feet more than I would have if i knew it was only a matter of time until it erupted and sent us to the ER for a weekend :( Live and Learn (and read parent blogs like this that help educate on a layman's level--I didn't have anything like that!)

My daughter is now NINE! so her incident was six years ago this spring and she is doing awesome! No recurrence and thanks to our very amazing pediatric plastic surgeon you can't see any scar whatsoever. good luck!

  5. My daughter was diagnosed a few weeks ago. She is 11 and has no worry or concern about it or the way it looks. It is located on her right cheekbone and is easily concealed by her glasses. Our dermatologist prescribed erythromycin topical gel. Everything I read indicated that there is no treatment otherror than surgical procedure and was hoping to hear that other have been successfully treated with this oitment. And comment are welcome.

  6. My 11 year old daughter was diagnosed yesterday. It is located on the lower middle of her cheek with the blueish pore telltale sign. One can see it plainly. It does not hurt and is currently not infected. It popped up about a month ago. According to the pediatric dermatologist, this will not go away without the excision and removal. It will not melt away with any creams or ointments. It is understood as a benign tumor, but I would think you won't know this until the mass is biopsied. So far there is just this one and I cross my fingers that it stays this way. We were told that it would be done in the office and they would numb the area. She should not feel any pain after the initial shot to numb, but maybe a pulling or tugging sensation thereafter. She has to stay out of the sun for a week and rest. After seeing what can happen if it gets infected, I think we should do this at the start of summer after school. Thanks for the blog.

  8. Wow! So excited to see someone else talking about this. I'm twenty now, but I had a pilomatricoma removed when I was about eight years old. Only the extremely observant notice my scar, and I take pride in making up fun stories when they ask about it. I felt some angst about the scar when it was still healing, but twelve years later I think my parents made the right move.
